Medhufaru Inn Guesthouse Surf & Dive is located on the local island of Guraidhoo in Kaafu (South Malé) Atoll. Guraidhoo will give you a chance to dive into traditional Maldivian island life without forgoing modernity. Located on the atoll's eastern edge, Guraidhoo is a charming Maldivian fishing village. With a population of 1,800, it is surrounded by reefs teeming with the hypnotic marine life. Historically, Guraidhoo was used as a refuge for sultans during political turmoil and attempted invasions. One reason for this could be that the complex reef displacement made it difficult for foreign ships to find a passage into the island.
The hospitality of its people and the many shops lining the main road have long attracted visitors. While exploring the island you will spot a hospital, police, drugstores, a children's playground, school, mosques, some minimarkets that sell the basic necessities, souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants, and dive centres. In Guraidhoo you can find also an ATM.
Being located on a local island gives you the possibility to get in touch with local maldivian population and to know and better understand they way of life and their culture. Don´t expect the luxury many maldivian resort offer but in turn warm hospitality and close insights in what Maldives is really about. A stay on a local island helps to improve the quality of life of the population that was also badly hitten by the pandemic.
Medhufaru Inn Guesthouse Surf & Dive is taking a very important commitment in social and cultural projects in Guraidhoo, from helping the local clinic to help poor families of the island, as well we are planning to give local kids swimming, watersports and language lessons. We are, as well, continously trying to reduce the plastic waste and to use natural materials to reduce the impact on the environment.
Kaafu Atoll (South Male Atoll) is sought after by a variety of tourists for its affordability and accessibility from the international airport. Male Ibrahim Nasir International Airport is well served by flights originating in Europe, although a stop-over in the Middle East may be required.
The transfer from Male to Guraidhoo by speedboat is only an approx. 35-40 minutes. We will be happy to organize the transfer for you.
The South Male Atoll is much quieter than its northern sister, the North Male Atoll and the capital of the Maldives’ independent travel scene. It is here that most independent travelers find themselves. The South Male Atoll may be the only place in the Maldives where diving is not the only main attraction. Diving shouldn’t be the only thing you enjoy here. Medhufaru Inn Guesthouse offers a wide range of activities and excursions. Take a tour to a deserted sand bank where you can sunbath in your bikini or snorkel around the surrounding reef, or come with us to swim with the dolphins and snorkel with mantas and whalesharks. In the evenings, enjoy the sunset while dining on fresh seafood. Alternatively, explore the sandbanks around the islands. You might even be able to walk to another nearby island during low tide.
The atoll’s tropical climate has average temperatures between 86°F (30° C) and 90°F (32° C). The water temperature ranges from 79 - 84°F (26 - 29°C).
